April Luncheon Notes

The PPA was pleased to host producers from two major cable tv outlets who shared information on booking guests on their top shows.

CNN
Gail Chalef, Senior director, Managing Editor
One CNN Center
6 South/Bookings
Atlanta, GA 30303
404.827.4921 phone
404.827.0807 fax
gail.chalef@turner.com

  • CNN Live Today – 10-noon. Considered the morning show for the west coast. The host likes inspirational and spiritual topics and good stories. Very author friendly
  • Your World Today – Noon-1. Hardcore international news (terrorism, foreign affairs)
  • CNN Live From – 1-4. Show runs the gamut, is very eclectic and has lots of space. Hard news with creative stories on history, etc. Very author friendly
  • CNN Live Today and CNN Live From won’t do demos, but looking for more ways to make interviews visual and will consider offsite taped pieces
  • 3 to 4 book segments per day
  • They also have special correspondents on the field working on long term projects who plan further out. For example, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is on a special year long look at America’s fight against fat. Delia Gallagher is the faith and values correspondent, also on a long term project. Gail will send us to the producers.

ESPN
COLD PIZZA
Tammy Caputo – Senior Talent Producer
212.609.4532 phone
212.244.0824 fax
Tammy.L.Caputo@espn.com

Cold Pizza is on daily from 10-noon and repeated from 2-4 pm reaching men 18-34 (and there is great debate over whether or not to host more cute girls as guests!). Tammy prefers to be contacted by phone with a follow up email. She reads all of her emails every day!

  • Usually books celebrities, athletes and politicians with some kind of sports hook. They do about 1 book segment per day
  • If she really likes the book, she will work with you to find a sports peg- they like to get creative.
  • Big names, then the topic attract her.
  • They love demos and cooking segments
  • They have a segment called Body Talk where an anchor will go with a fitness related author to do a program or workout.
